RUDY R. MANTHEI RUDY R. MANTHEI, D.O., F.O.C.O.O.
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dr. Manthei received his B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1979. He earned his Medical Degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he was selected to receive the Mead Johnson Research and Alvin Morrow Awards. Board Certification in Ophthalmology was awarded to Dr. Manthei in 1991.

Dr. Manthei, as one of the founders of Nevada Eye & Ear, has a reputation of excellence in Refractive Surgery world wide. Now serving as Medical Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at Nevada Eye & Ear, he has also devoted the last few years as the chairman of the committee to Keep Our Doctors in Nevada. In an effort to protect patient access to quality health care for all the people in Nevada, Dr. Manthei has taken medical liability reform not only locally but also nationally. Attending many conferences in Washington, he has fostered the awareness of the importance of health care reform and made Nevada a key state in fighting for this important issue.

Recently, Dr. Manthei received the NOMA Grass Roots Advocate of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding dedication on behalf of both patients and physicians. His tireless efforts were noted in the state of Nevada by NOMA and nationally by the AOA. As this is the first time that this award has been given by the association, it will hereby be known as the Rudy Manthei Award.

DOUGLAS C. LORENZ DOUGLAS C. LORENZ, D.O., F.O.C.O.O.
EYE PHYSICIAN & REFRACTIVE SURGEON
EYELID PLASTIC & CATARACT SURGERY

Dr. Lorenz received his B.S. at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1977, and earned his medical degree at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri in 1983. His internship was served at the Michigan Osteopathic Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, where he also completed his residency in Ophthalmology. Board Certification in Ophthalmology was awarded to Dr. Lorenz in 1991.

Dr. Lorenz was in private practice in Reno before joining Nevada Eye & Ear in 1991. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a highly skilled Cataract Refractive Surgeon. He has had extensive training in all aspects of refractive surgical techniques and also specializes in Eyelid Plastic Surgery and Laser Skin Resurfacing.

Dr. Lorenz is currently serving as the principle investigator for Rebanipide Optical Suspension in the treatment of Dry Eyes and had previously served as a clinical investigator for studies of new glaucoma medications.

GLEN HATCHER, JR.
GLEN HATCHER, JR., D.O., F.O.C.O.O.
GENERAL MEDICAL OPHTHALMOLOGY
CONSULTANT, REFRACTIVE SERVICES

Dr. Hatcher received his B.A. from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University-College of Osteopathic Medicine. After a Rotating Internship, he completed his Ophthalmology Residency at Detroit Osteopathic/Bi-County Hospitals in conjunction with rotations at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University.

Dr. Hatcher served as Chief Resident while completing his residency and received the prestigious Mead-Johnson Fellowship Award for scholarly research.

Dr. Hatcher has served as President of several medical organizations, the last being President of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. He recently received The Distinguished Service Award from the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. He is presently Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at Michigan State University.

LEO H KAN


LEO H. KAN, D.O.
Glaucoma Specialist and Cataract Surgeon

Dr. Kan received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Ohio State University. He continued his study there for an additional year of research. He then went on to medical school and received his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA.

Following medical school, Dr. Kan went on for his internship at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA, a University of Massachusetts-affiliated


hospital. He then returned to Ohio to start ophthalmology training and completed his residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Kan proceeded to further his study with a glaucoma fellowship at University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, where he had extensive experience in management of complex glaucoma and resident teaching.

Dr. Kan is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.


KATHLEEN M. MAHON
KATHLEEN M. MAHON, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.P.
PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dr. Mahon received her B.S. degree from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1971, and earned her medical degree at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine in 1975. She completed her internship in pediatrics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1976. Continuing on to her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida from 1976-1979. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Texas in 1980.

Dr. Mahon is a Fellow, American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a Fellow, American College of Surgeons and she was the Nevada chapter president. Dr. Mahon has served as Chairman on the Section on Pediatric Ophthalmology of American Academy of Pediatrics from 1987-1990. Ophthalmology board certification was awarded to Dr. Mahon in 1980.

Although having received many honors and awards, it is most noteworthy that she was the original founder of the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas and is listed in, “AMERICA’S TOP DOCTORS’ the Nation’s Leading Medical Specialist.” Dr. Mahon was the founder of the Mahon Eye Center and has established a long-standing association with the Las Vegas community and specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Mahon is a Local Legend in Medicine, designated by the National Library of Congress.

Rajy M. Rouweyha, MD

LASIK & CATARACT REFRACTIVE SURGEON & CORNEAL SPECIALIST

Dr. Rouweyha, who bears a wealth of ophthalmic knowledge, brings to the practice a specialization in corneal training. He is a certified diplomat: American Board of Ophthalmology and fellowship trained Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgeon. Beyond practicing general Ophthalmology, he also specializes in a wide range of refractive surgeries including AK, PRK, LASIK, LASEK and INTACS.

Dr. Rouweyha received his Bachelor of Science degree in combined science from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He earned his medical degree at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and then completed his residency in general Ophthalmology at the George Washington University Medical Center, where he was honored with the Chief Resident Award. He then concluded his training at the prestigious Hermann Eye Center in the University of Texas Medical Center, where he completed one year of clinical research fellowship in cornea/external disease and refractive surgery and was named Outstanding Fellow of the Year.

He is certified on multiple excimer laser platforms, including the Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser, as well as the Bausch & Lomb Hansatome Microkeratome. Dr. Rouweyha is also one of the few cornea specialists who is a certified INTACS instructor and corneal transplant surgeon.
